Understanding your cardiovascular profile is essential for long-term wellness. Heart health assessment focuses on key markers including cholesterol levels, triglycerides, and targeted blood tests that reveal your cardiovascular risk factors. These clinical indicators provide a comprehensive picture of how your heart and blood vessels are functioning, enabling you to make informed decisions about lifestyle and preventative care. Regular monitoring of these metrics helps identify potential concerns early, supporting proactive health management and reducing the risk of serious cardiac events.

What we measure

The biomarkers in this panel.

Heart health

Total Cholesterol

The total amount of cholesterol in your blood.

Why it matters

A long-standing marker for heart and circulation health.

Heart health

LDL Cholesterol

The 'less helpful' type of cholesterol.

Why it matters

Higher levels are linked to a greater chance of furred-up arteries over time.

Heart health

HDL Cholesterol

The 'helpful' type of cholesterol.

Why it matters

Higher levels are generally linked to better heart health.

Heart health

Total Cholesterol/HDL Cholesterol Ratio

Total cholesterol compared with HDL.

Why it matters

A simple ratio that gives a clearer picture than total cholesterol alone.

Heart health

Triglycerides

Fats circulating in your blood.

Why it matters

Linked to diet, weight and heart health — often respond well to lifestyle tweaks.

Heart health

Apolipoprotein A-I

The main protein in HDL ('helpful') cholesterol.

Why it matters

Higher levels are generally linked to better heart health.

Heart health

Apolipoprotein B

The main protein in LDL ('less helpful') cholesterol.

Why it matters

Gives a more direct read on artery-clogging particles than LDL alone.

Heart health

Apolipoprotein B/A-I Ratio

The balance between the two main cholesterol-carrying proteins.

Why it matters

A useful summary of overall cardiovascular risk.

Heart health

Apolipoprotein CII

A protein involved in clearing fats from the blood.

Why it matters

Gives extra insight into how your body handles dietary fats.

Heart health

Apolipoprotein CIII

A protein linked to triglyceride clearance.

Why it matters

Higher levels are linked to higher cardiovascular risk.

Heart health

Apolipoprotein E

A protein that helps move cholesterol around your body.

Why it matters

Adds depth to the picture of how your body handles fats.

Heart health

Small LDL Cholesterol

The smaller, denser type of LDL particles.

Why it matters

Small LDL is more closely linked to artery-clogging than larger LDL.

Heart health

Lipoprotein (a)

A largely genetic cholesterol-carrying particle.

Why it matters

High levels can be a sign of inherited heart-health risk.

Is this panel right for me?

Who this panel is built for.

Who this is for

  • Adults wanting to monitor lipid balance, inflammation and cardiovascular risk markers.
  • People with a family history of heart conditions who want to track their own numbers.
  • Anyone making lifestyle changes (exercise, diet, smoking cessation) and wanting before-and-after data.
  • Those over 40 looking at cardiovascular markers for the first time.

Consider speaking to a clinician first

  • Anyone with chest pain, breathlessness or new cardiac symptoms. Contact your GP, NHS 111 or 999.
  • People who already have a cardiology team managing their care. Discuss any new test with them first.
  • Those currently being prescribed or titrated on lipid medication. Your prescribing clinician should direct testing.
  • Children under 18.

This panel reports biomarker data. It does not diagnose any condition. Your results should be reviewed alongside the advice of your GP or another qualified healthcare professional.

FAQs

Common questions.

How long do Heart Health results take?

Heart Health results are typically delivered within 2 working days of the laboratory receiving your sample. You receive a plain English PDF report covering each cardiovascular biomarker, the lab reference range, and what each marker measures.

How is the sample collected for the Heart Health panel?

The Heart Health panel requires a venous blood draw at a Chxhealth or partner clinic. The phlebotomy fee is included in the price. Choose our Lanchester clinic or one of our 50+ UK partner and pop-up clinics when you book.

Should I fast before a Heart Health blood test?

Yes. Heart Health includes lipid markers (cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides), so a 10 to 12 hour fast is recommended for accurate results. Drink water only and avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours beforehand.

Who should consider the Heart Health panel?

The Heart Health panel suits adults with a family history of cardiovascular disease, raised cholesterol, high blood pressure, or anyone wanting to track cardiovascular risk markers proactively. It is also useful before and after lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise programmes.

Will the Heart Health panel tell me if I have heart disease?

No. Chxhealth is a biomarker and genetic data provider. We do not diagnose, treat or prescribe. For medical advice, please speak to a qualified healthcare professional. Your Heart Health report shows where your biomarkers sit relative to typical reference ranges. If any markers are outside the typical range, your report will flag them so you can discuss with your GP or cardiologist.
