What to Know Before Your Appointment
A short guide to help you prepare for your appointment, so we can give you the most accurate biomarker results possible.
Following these guidelines before your appointment helps us give you the most accurate biomarker results. Most are quick and easy to follow.
Fasting required (8 to 12 hours)
Fasting prior to your test is recommended. Non-fasting can impact heart health, cardiovascular risk score, diabetes health, iron status and testosterone levels.
Do not smoke
Do not smoke for a minimum of 30 minutes before your appointment.
Do not exercise
Please avoid strenuous exercise for 48 hours before your appointment.
Supplementation
Unless prescribed by your doctor, we recommend stopping supplementation at least 48 hours prior to testing. If the supplement has been prescribed, please speak with your doctor before stopping.
Biotin (Vitamin B7)
Biotin is a common component of many multivitamins and is also available as a standalone supplement. Biotin is known to interfere with laboratory testing and can affect various blood results. Unless prescribed by your doctor, we recommend stopping biotin supplementation at least 48 hours before testing. If your supplement has been prescribed, please speak to your doctor before stopping.
Hormonal contraception
Hormonal contraception may affect your results. If you stop taking the pill, we suggest waiting until your periods have resumed their normal cycle before taking this test. Please make sure that you take an alternative form of contraception if you are not planning to become pregnant.
When to test for hormones
If you are interested in your hormone results, we recommend taking this test two or five days after the start of your period, ideally on day three. Please note that this may impact your urinalysis result. If you want a general check or are post-menopausal, the test can be taken on any day.
What to expect on the day
- Allow 30 minutes for your visit. The appointment itself lasts about 15 minutes, but please give yourself a 30 minute window for check in, wait times and questions.
- Bring some form of ID. Used as confirmation of sample collection.
- Our clinic is in Lanchester, County Durham. If this is far from you please do not worry. We have 40+ partner clinics around the UK, so you can choose the one closest to you when you book.
