Test Sample Location

Comprehensive bone health assessment examining five critical biomarkers. This panel measures alkaline phosphatase to evaluate bone turnover activity, adjusted calcium for skeletal integrity, phosphate levels essential for bone mineralisation, vitamin D status crucial for calcium absorption, and parathyroid hormone to assess calcium regulation. Together, these markers provide insight into bone metabolism, mineral balance, and overall skeletal health. Ideal for monitoring bone density concerns, evaluating metabolic disorders, or establishing baseline bone health status. Results guide targeted interventions to support long-term bone strength and prevent degenerative conditions.

What we measure

The biomarkers in this panel.

Liver and bone health

Alkaline Phosphatase

A marker linked to both liver and bone health.

Why it matters

Levels can shift when the liver is under strain or when bones are remodelling more than usual.

Bone and nutrition

Calcium

A mineral important for bones, muscles and nerves.

Why it matters

Useful for understanding bone health and overall nutrition.

Bone and kidney

Phosphate

A mineral that works with calcium for bones and energy.

Why it matters

Levels can shift with diet, kidney function or bone activity.

Bone and immune

Vitamin D

A vitamin you make from sunlight and get from food.

Why it matters

Linked to bone strength, immune function and mood. Many people in the UK run low.

Bone health

Parathyroid Hormone

A hormone that controls calcium balance.

Why it matters

Gives insight into bone and calcium handling.

Is this panel right for me?

Who this panel is built for.

Who this is for

  • Adults wanting to track vitamin D, calcium and related bone markers.
  • People over 50 reviewing markers as part of a wider longevity check.
  • Athletes and active adults monitoring bone-related markers periodically.
  • Postmenopausal women gathering data alongside other hormonal markers.

Consider speaking to a clinician first

  • Anyone with recent low-trauma fractures. Speak to your GP about DEXA scanning.
  • People already under endocrine or rheumatology care for bone conditions.
  • Those needing bone density imaging (DEXA), which is a scan rather than a blood test.
  • Children under 18.

This panel reports biomarker data. It does not diagnose any condition. Your results should be reviewed alongside the advice of your GP or another qualified healthcare professional.

Why test

When numbers help you understand yourself.

Symptoms tell you something is wrong. Tests tell you what. This panel measures the biomarkers that connect to how you actually feel — so you can act with evidence, not guesswork.

FAQs

Common questions.

How long do Bone Health results take?

Bone Health results are typically delivered within 2 working days of the laboratory receiving your sample. You receive a plain English PDF report.

How is the sample collected for Bone Health?

The Bone Health panel requires a venous blood draw at a Chxhealth or partner clinic. The phlebotomy fee is included in the price. Choose our Lanchester clinic or one of our 50+ UK partner and pop-up clinics when you book.

What does the Bone Health panel measure?

The panel covers vitamin D, calcium, phosphate, alkaline phosphatase, and other markers relevant to bone metabolism. It is most informative when interpreted alongside lifestyle factors and, where indicated by a clinician, bone density scanning.

Who should consider the Bone Health panel?

Adults concerned about bone density (particularly postmenopausal women), people with low vitamin D risk factors, athletes with repeated stress injuries, and anyone with a family history of osteoporosis.

When in the year should I test vitamin D?

Late winter (February to April) typically captures the lowest vitamin D levels in the UK because of low UVB in the months before. Testing in late summer captures peak levels. For supplementation tracking, retest 3 months after starting a new dose. Read more in our vitamin D glossary entry.
